Ananda – Serbia.

The oldest language in the world, Sanskrit, Ananda means bliss, a state beyond the senses, mind and spirit.

This is the name they have chosen for their restaurant –  to show to strive for superb peace, tranquillity, nestled in this moment unloaded past, present, and future. Therefore, the Ananda place reminds us that we are here and now, far from the problems of the past and plans for the future, to enjoy every bite of food, sip coffee or tea, and we feel that we connect as one.

Ananda is a vegan – fasting restaurant located in the central business district of Novi Sad. They opened on 01 June 2009. Their cuisine amplifies international, they make use of segments of many cultures and influences, as well as foods and spices from around the world. Of course, they have very carefully taken into account the ‘tastes’ of the people in Serbia.

Their meals are made exclusively from ingredients of plant origin. Ananda offers a beautiful environment where you feel very much a part of the pretty surroundings and carefully selected music to enjoy great food.

Unfortunately – we could not find their ‘official’ Facebook page to support – however did find stunning commentary all over the net regarding personal experiences there – further contact information is available on their website provided.

On their vegan-lean plate, they usually provide three food groups:
◦povrće (various fresh vegetables depending on the season and availability on the market)
◦žitarice (millet, wheat, barley, oats, rice …)
◦mahunarke (soy, beans, peas, green beans …)
Also, their foods are prepared differently: eg. one is boiled, stewed second, third baked or fried. In addition, very often on a plate presented is a delicious dressing made of seeds (sesame, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, peanuts …) or exotic Indian inspired sauces such as “chutney”, which is generally sweet and angry and emphasizes the digestive “fire” of the body.
Their famous chutney is made of various seasonal fruits –  pineapple, plums, cherries, mangoes, apples, apricots, peaches …
They use a large varied number of spices which have a beneficial effects on the body and give their dishes a nice and balanced taste: Turmeric, ginger, cloves, curry, chili, black and white mustard, cumin, caraway, coriander, basil, oregano, thyme, rosemary, bay leaves, cinnamon , nutmeg, cardamom, anise …
With their vegan – low-fat dish that can be obtained in two sizes, ie, standard and large, fresh salad and homemade bread is included in the price. I am a vegan – lean plate, serve soup days. Their soups are creamy and thick with large amounts of vegetable servings, complimented with toasted homemade bread cubes and the soup is offered in two sizes.
A wide selection of sandwiches are on offer (on freshly baked homemade rolls), also ask for Somos (stuffed savory pastries), pizza, burger, a variety of fresh salads and desserts …
A large selection of teas and coffee, various fruit drinks and juices are available.
